In today's fast paced world of billion dollar mergers, tech stocks, and young millionaires, it is easy to get lost in the excitement. The last five years have seen more young millionaires (those aged 30 or younger) produced than in all previous years combined, resulting in the business world having a new found respect for the place of a young professional, entrepreneur, or businessman.

This also means that young professionals are faced with problems much earlier in life, such as managing their wealth, taxes, investments, being overworked, their place in the world, dealing with family and friends, and finding a woman. I work as a stockbroker, which is a lifestyle that involves making a lot of fast money, meeting many powerful people, spending thousands of dollars as if it were Kleenex, and being in the presence of some of the most beautiful women in the world. It is often an overwhelming lifestyle, which often leads to neglecting several important aspects of life, such as health and family.

The most pressing issue young professionals face is the balance needed to maintain a successful business life, and a fulfilling personal life. Achieving success, riches, and recognition must be equalized with rewarding personal relationships, proper health, and an outlook towards self-fulfillment. The biggest mistake young men with money make is to live only for the day, neglecting any long-term planning of their lives.

Many young professionals still live the swinging bachelor life, since a disproportionate amount of time is spent on their careers, and they don't have time to find their soul mates . For those who are in relationships, these are often void of any deep meaning since a full commitment can never be made, and questions often arise about if the person they are currently seeing is the one.

The problem with meeting women at this stage of our lives, is that it is much more difficult to discern if their interest is driven by our remarkable personality, or the thickness of our wallet. The temptation often arises to settle down with either the first woman we meet, or the most beautiful woman we meet. These are issues best covered by our Dating & Love section, but are nevertheless important issues.

What we should do with our money is another problem that we are confronted with. Should we save for the future or enjoy the money now, rewarding ourselves for all that hard work with expensive cars (which is, by the way, the number one gift a young millionaire buys himself).

Often, excessive and freewheeling spending leads to our small fortune evaporating more quickly than the time it took to make it. Issues such as investing, retirement plans, and tax planning are put on the back burner. With the focus solely on the present, future plans are usually forgotten.

Another important element in everyone's life, not just young professionals, is friends and family. Success usually breeds arrogance and bloated egos. As a result, relationships with old friends might become strained, as our lifestyle leapfrogs over that of our friends and family. At a certain point, successful men can only relate their most pressing issues with other successful men.

Quality time with our family is likely to be the most important, since it provides the support and base any person needs, yet it is often the most neglected aspect of our lives. Taking the time to nurture the relationships with family members is not a top priority for young men, especially successful men. The foundation of a strong family life is however, often a strong contributor to success, since most men with money often are miserable and alone. Remember, you could lose everything in an instant, and these are the people who will pick you up and get you back on your feet.

These are exciting times, and being young & successful is a wonderful lifestyle. In addition to the aforementioned circumstances, there is an endless list of issues that pertain to the typical young professional man with a good job and a bright future ahead of him. Over the coming months, this column will focus on these issues to give perspective to young professionals about all the elements of life.
