Where are the footsteps?

I followed my shadow, living in the benevolence of my heart

Asking for the humanity to have a human face

Not to terrorise the disabled

I climbed the highest mountain,

Shouted at the top of my voice

Calling all who cared to listen

For a message of wanton livelihood

I spent sleepless nights

Asking what to do for your heart

And bingo! The answer came in

I was not petrified

Not at all

I walked the dusty terrain

Swerved along the wet road

Lost my memory

And lived a life for you

Because you matter a lot

Then you felt so bad

That I took my step and made a choice

Which you thought you had known

And forgot that I have my inner self

That is unknown to the outside

I regret, for being too good for you

And forgot myself too

For your sake

You did not show me your care

Only hatred, when you saw me with another of your kind

But did not know how hurt I was

As days progressed

Inside

Now I took my stand, and you boiled with rage

Turned red and spat on me, my face

I cleaned myself and moved on

And because of that…

…I remove my hat

Deigning over you and whisper

I am sorry; I did not know you are like that

I need to move on without your footsteps

Behind me

Bye.

Writer Profile
Mbũrũ

I am a researcher on educational issues especially in the rural areas, with much emphasis on girls' education.

As a trained journalist, I have a lot of concern with the handling of the education sub-sector in Kenya and take a critical role in viewing the reforms currently being conducted to integrate education structures for the sake of the youth in Kenya.

One major aspect, sadly, is that Kenya has been sovereign for over four decades but has been the only African country besides Somalia not to have made education compulsory, free and basic. For Somalia it can be understood - the country had been in civil strife since 1992- but for Kenya the politics of the day have played a negative role in reducing the promotion of education to a system sheer competition, instead of progressive

Apart from that, I write fictitious literature.
Currently I am working on prose on love and betrayal and a collection of poems.
