The recent and current Bemba language debate is one good example we need to learn from. If the language Bemba is common or most popular, as is the case, it does not mean Bembas are superior to other tribes, but rather their language is one tool that unites many people of the great country. The continued perpetuation of this superior-inferior comparison will culminate into hatred for one another based on tribe.

In Zambia, as we commemorate this day let us remember the Bemba saying which goes like “mwikala patalala, mwine apatalalika” (he who wants to stay in peace create their own peace). I wish I could say it in another language. We are all the same in the eyes of the Lord; we belong to only one race-the human race. Let us respect each other and appreciate our differences. One Zambia One Nation.
