”Be the Change! inspires young people around the world to "be the change they want to see in the world." Each has identified a problem within their community and is proposing a solution to address it. Some live in rural areas miles from the nearest water supply. Others live in the shadow of last century's greatest nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. Still others live in refugee camps with no books or educational opportunities to speak of. What they all have in common, however, is the passion and commitment to overcome these circumstances and to make a difference in their communities.

Through Be the Change! you can read about these young people and what they want to do. You can choose to fund a specific youth project and check back every week to see the difference your donation has made to the project's progress. Through the Be the Change! message board, you can communicate with your chosen youth or group of youths, offering advice or asking questions about what they are doing or even just about what life in their country is like.”

United Games India - Schoolproject in Banjarpalya

During United Games 2000 delegations of young people from Europe had the chance to visit some villages in Bangalore region. In the Banjarpalya -35 kilometres away from Bangalore centre - we got to know the situation of the local primary school which is rather difficult. The headmaster and the teachers do their best to create a nice athmosphere in the school but the facilities are very limited. E.g. the school has only two classrooms for more than 200 pupils. While visiting the school the idea developed that young people in the different European United Games countries could try to raise money for it to build more classrooms. When we return to India for the next United Games we will help to build the classroom together with the people of Banjarpalya. Our Indian friends call this project idea: "The University of Gondwanaland".

United Games Austria in strong cooperation with the "Modelschool" in Graz managed to raise the funds to build one classroom during the United Games 2001. In October 2001 the next United Games India will take place and the European United Games youth delegations will stay for one week in the village of Banjarpalya to help to finish the first additional classroom.

In the following years, the young people in United Games will keep up the contact and their support for the village school of Banjarpalya. - They are going to raise funds, travel to India and help to build and develop the school until the situation has changed sustainably.
