Mon plus magnifique nouvel an fut la nuit du 31 decembre 2003 au 1er janvier 2004. J' posted by fausta (Guadeloupe) |
My 31th December’s night is divided in two parts : first, before midnight, I celebrate with my family, having a good dinner, and after midnight, I’m used to going out and celebrating with my friends. My family and I have some traditions for this special night : first, we give each other a coin, so that money never lacks, and we also put a plate of red beans, and one of rice on the table, so that food doesn’t lack in all the year. Perhaps I can really celebrate this hoilday season. 2003 was the most eventful year of my life. I got a fair mix of good fortune and trails. Additionally,I have place 3rd in a male pageant that puts me closer to becoming Mr. Jamaica 2005. I am colser to finding my mother and I learnt that my long lost little brother is not with our wicked aunt anymore, but in a happier setting. I All in all that has been a good enough year to celebrate. A valuable lesson to my readers then is that not matter what the year has been like for you, by virtue of the fact that you are alive. In Nigeria, As We celebrate this Special Moment the less privellage would be those to put into consideration as their hope's are lost and chattered, I will be responsible for restoring back their lost hopes and trust, as i have voluntier to touch lives by organizing a small get to gether for those in my community Peter Osariemen A. In Nigeria, we're getting ready to celebrate this year's Christmas season, what a golden season it is which gives me my other brothers and other family members a happy moment to be together every year, to celebrate our lives and growth. No words can express what exactly the feelings is like, the expressions lies there with the celebration, and I must wait until it comes around. Happy Xmas! becomes the "Hi!". In Australia New Years is a time for partying with friends. My friends pick a new city or place each year at which to congregate. We will often then start with a BBQ and gradually turn up the music until we have a full blown party that last's well into the early hours of New Year's day. Last year we had our party in a unit overlooking Darling Harbour in Sydney which was exhillerating. This year we've chosen the more tranquil option of renting a house in the Bunya Mountains in Queensland. posted by aaronc (Australia) |
In my family, New Year's is a time to get together with friends. Every year we alternate between inviting over family friends and going to their house. We play games, have supper, and watch television specials and coverage of the new year's entrance in other parts of the world. We count down the time left untill midnight and when it comes, we have a toast to the new year and to friends and family. posted by angel-of-music (Canada) |
For my family, New Year's is a time to get together and catch up. Since many of my cousins are away at school and it's difficult to see everyone when they are busy with work, we usually all spend New Year's eve at my aunt's house and count down to the new year together. posted by Susheela (Canada) |

We celebrate the New Year on January 1st in my household. But its a two-fold celebration for my household, as it is also my brother's birthday. On New Years Eve, we hold a birthday party for him with close family and friends, and once midnight hits, we sing him Happy Birthday and eat cake. posted by ryann (Canada) |

Iranian New Year (Norooz) is celebrated on the first day of spring (21st of March). It is a family affair; visiting reletaives (elders in the family, usually) is the norm, and it is the custom to give youngsters money (crispy bills). posted by hbanai (Canada) |
My memories of Chinese New Year in Hong Kong are a blur of visiting with family and food! I remember visiting all of my relatives' homes on the first day of the New Year (sometime in February or at the end of January), recieving packets of lucky money in lovely red envelopes, and eating special sweets in red and gold sweet boxes. To this day, I still collect my red lucky money envelopes, with the good wishes written on them by my family. posted by aclam (Canada) |
In Malaysia, we celebrate Chinese New Year with visits to our relatives. We begin by visiting my dad's older relatives in rank of age, and after, the same with my mom's side. In every visit, we have to greet each relative in the proper traditional Chinese way, and would be given a red packet (with money inside). Any relative younger in age than my parents would then have to come and visit us. Interestingly, since we lived with my grandmother during this time, each of my dad posted by Blah! (Hong Kong) |
