What inspires you?

I am inspired by a lot of things in my environment but stories, documentaries and insights on transformation inspire me the most. Many countries in my continent, Africa, are lagging behind in diverse areas on the global outlook and my country, Nigeria, is not left out. While African countries have many resources, both natural and human, an imbalance of the right inputs has consistently mitigated our continental progress. Bad leadership, selfishness and greed, corruption and false patriotism are the underlying problems that limit the continent’s prosperity. We are the reasons why we are where we are today. I believe it will take good efforts from both the leaders and citizens to deliver the desired progress. So, when I hear about events and actions of positive change in these areas, I am inspired and motivated to contribute my quota.

Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.

A major issue of personal concern is the issue of governance and economic development in Nigeria. In the early part of my teenage years, I strongly nursed the desire to emigrate from Nigeria and never return. I came to this conclusion at that time because despite the ubiquity of religiousness and spirituality in my environment, problems of insecurity, bad governance, deteriorating educational quality, inadequacy of basic amenities and serious economic fluctuations were prevalent. As such, I was upset and grew obsessed about leaving my continent. But sometimes later, I came across a book, The Second Revolution by Sam Adeyemi, and after reading it, I was enlightened about my part in the big picture of needed transformation. As such, I started writing and blogging about change and developmental issues with emphasis on Nigeria and Africa. Being on the change caravan affords me a sense of fulfillment.

Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.

Much has been said and published about leadership and its theories are probably inexhaustible. However, I believe there are basic and indispensable fundamentals to leading other people. So here are my customized theories and practices: a good leader must know what is right and endeavour to keep to it; they must know the common problems of the followers and provide solutions that will at least, ameliorate them; they must exemplify by keeping to standards in conduct and character; they must demonstrate commitment to the overall good or objective; they do not have to be perfect but they must take responsibility for faults and truly learn from mistakes; they must be able to settle issues on conflicts of interests without unhealthy sentiments.
