What inspires you?

I am inspired by nature. I am inspired by the gift of life, the sound of birds to the green trees, the cool breeze of the seas and sight of the oceans and all that there is, the sweet sight of wildlife, the interconnectedness of life with its environment leave more to be desire. Mother Nature is my inspiration. I am inspired by the lives of martyr like Ken Saro-Wiwa, Nelson Mandela, living Nnimmo Bassey, Dr. Uyi-Ojo and other environmental/human rights activist.

Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.

The environment and human rights are issues that matter most to me; I’ve witness firsthand violation of human rights and degradation of the environment from the present global environmental challenges resulting from corporate negligence, multi-national destructive activities, and government insensitivity, the violence in the Delta, there is only one conclusion “a boom for merchants of crisis capitalism”.

Crude oil is greasing the wheels of conflict around the world.

And this is very much the case in the Niger Delta. With 2.2 million barrels of oil extracted per day, the Nigerian state is hooked on oil as babies are hooked to the mother’s breast. If babies do grow up and get weaned so must the Nigerian State and the world as well.

Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.

To me what makes a good leader is determination, focus and clear sense of purpose. A good leader must be of good and strong character, one who builds excellence and engages in the entire process of leadership. And to achieve this, such a person most be of honorable character.

Do you think TakingITGlobal can help you achieve some of your goals? Have we already? Please tell us how.

I think TakingITGlobal can help me achieve some of my goals.

Being a TIG member has been very rewarding. I found TIG guide to action very instrumental and useful in my campaign against climate change.

I am also a beneficiary of TIGed e-course of Global Citizenship and Environmental Stewardship these two courses have not only built my capacity for action but have given me a platform for joint action with other youths like me working elsewhere in the world.

Although TIG has provided a platform for learning, sharing of ideas, networking, they can do much more.

I am currently working on a project to campaign against land grab by government, chiefs and elders for multinational corporations solely for the purpose of monoculture tree plantation with false promises of employment and better lives for community people.

I’m hoping TIG can help with grants for this campaign and also globalise the struggle.
