What inspires you?

Koffi Annan is the person who inspires me. He inspires me to move out and reach out to the most needy in the community/society to better their future. I credit him for inspiring me to have a sense of humanity and offer humanitarian work all over. I view him as a person who influenced my life, and as a role model who continues to inspire me day and night.
Secondly, I am inspired by different young people who are able to connect with each other irrespective of their different cultures, beliefs, tribe and race. I am also inspired by young people who can influence change into other people’s life!

Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.

There are many issues that matter to me at the moment such as: poverty, gender based violence, violence and war.
I became more aware of these issues and came across them when l was serving the aged, emaciated kids, PLWHAs and raped children with relief items that is when it clicked on my mind that poverty has been the key contributing factors among other factors in all these. These were victims of both man made and natural disasters e.g. famine, drought, floods and the recent post election violence in my country. Right now my own involvement with humanitarian organizations and relief organizations such as Kenya Red Cross Society has helped me make a difference in a way that inspires me to do more in future. And to sum with one of my favorite saying is that “I should never set out to change the world, l might be disappointed; the best goal is to challenge myself everyday, test my patience and open my mind and heart and set an example.”

Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.

I think a good leader is one who is fair, self motivated, appreciative, committed, enthusiastic, understanding and one who can articulate issues. In addition, one who has strong ability to influence the rest of the group in doing something either in a negative or positive way but the best way is to encourage the team to do positive things. Also a good leader should listen to the voices of those that they lead and incorporate their interests and opinions in the decision-making process.

I think TakingITGlobal can help me achieve my personal goals i.e. that is to connect with other people with different cultures and share my thoughts, ideas and beliefs with them. In fact it has already helped me to achieve several of my goals, which include: learning about other organizations and how they operate, connecting with my fellow youth globally and sharing ideas/experiences online.
