What inspires you?
Personally, I am inspired by the enthusiasm and idealism of youths all over the world. Whenever I need to find inspiration to start a new project or continue an ongoing one I just think of how active my peers can be when given the chance and how I can involve them in meeting the goals of a campaign or program. Moreover, my ideas stem from my inner desire to change the community I live in and, after finishing high school and university, try to take the big step and work at the United Nations. It is there where I believe that I can prove my best qualities.
Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.
Ever since I had become the President of an ecology club in my high school two years and a half ago I have regarded the issue of Youth Participation and Volunteerism as one of extremely great importance. I firmly believe that youth volunteerism plays a key role in all our efforts to try and significantly change the world we live in. For example, in order to accomplish the Millennium Development Goals by 2015, we need to involve young people from all over the world in all kinds of projects as we need their idealism and high motivation to succeed in order to meet the MDGs.
The fact that, as President of the Green Club, I had to coordinate the activity of a club with more than 500 members made me realize that the existence and the success of this club depended on the active participation of its members in the activities organized by the club. Therefore, I tried to find more ways to raise awareness among my peers.
Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.
In my view, a good leader is the one who can get his message across to the other members of a team so that a certain project has a positive outcome. Furthermore, he/she has to have, apart from good communication skills, the ability to get the job done and who has the main responsibilities in a team. Last but not least, a leader certainly needs to have that innate gift to "be the boss", though he needs to cultivate his skills in order to succeed in being in charge of a group.
Do you think TakingITGlobal can help you achieve some of your goals? Have we already? Please tell us how.
Well, TIG definitely gave me the inestimable chances to meet highly motivated young people from all over the world and to promote the activities I organized or attended. In addition, I had the opportunity to participate in some extremely interesting and useful activities. I enjoyed working on projects which benefited me a lot. Overall, without a shadow of a doubt, TIG has helped me improve my skills and take a step further in my attempt to make a significant change in my country.
