TIGed needs YOU!

TakingITGlobal is participating in two exciting contests that can help us to raise funds to support our online community and innovative education programs! We need your help to increase our chances of winning, and would greatly appreciate it if you would support us by taking part and/or spreading the word!

Best Buy's @15 Exchange

Best Buy @15 Exchange TakingITGlobal will win a portion of $250,000 through Best Buy's @15 site, which provides an online platform for teens to share their voice and make a difference. Through its @15 Exchange, Best Buy is donating $1 million to youth-serving charities, and giving youth a say in how the funds are distributed.

Until the end of October, teens aged 13-18 can earn points through their participation on www.at15.com that they later donate to the charity partner of their choice. The $250,000 available within the current funding round will be divided between participating non-profit organizations based on the total percentage of points received. Points are earned by registering, referring friends, participating in surveys and forums, and so on.

We would appreciate if you could support us in this initiative by encouraging your students to visit and sign up on the @15 site, and then vote for TakingITGlobal during voting next week!

Video Conferencing Program Launched!
Video Conferencing Program Launched!TIG is pleased to announce that we have formalized our partnership with the Centre for Global Education (TCGE), based out of Alberta, Canada, in order to jointly offer 6 international video conferences over the 2010-2011 school year. Scheduled around related internationally recognized days, these events engage students from countries around the world in learning about a wide range of global issues, including mental health, HIV/AIDS, climate change, international development, and tobacco use.

Teachers, students, and mentors first connect online in TIGed virtual classroom communities to gain a basic understanding of the issues at hand and get acquainted with each other before meeting face-to-face in the culminating video conference. All conferences are highly interactive and require a varying degree of commitment. In order to be an active participant in any video conference, schools need access to H. 323 compatible video conferencing technology (such as that offered by Polycom, Tandberg, Sony, Xmeeting, etc.).

For information about international student video conferences, please contact videoconferencing@takingitglobal.org and/or visit http://tcge.tiged.org/.
