 About
What is it?
The United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) is an intergovernmental policy forum to promote the management , conservation, and sustainable development of all types of forests and strengthen the long-term political commitment to that goal. The UNFF helps to develop policies, give coherent and comprehensive guidance on all issues related to forests and to facilitate the exchange of experiences in the implementation of sustainable forest management practices by governments, international organizations, and all stakeholders.

Why is it important to young people?
The world’s forests cover one-quarter of the Earth’s land surface. Forests help to maintain the fertility of agricultural land, protect water sources, and reduce the risk of natural disasters. Close to 1.6 billion people depend to some extent on forests for their livelihood. For all that forests give to this world young people should be actively interested in attempting to preserve them.

How can young people get involved?
The UNFF welcomes participation from the nine major groups outlined in Agenda 21, this includes the Children and Youth major group. Any organization accredited with Economic and Social Committee of the UN and the Commission on Sustainable Development are encouraged to participate. If an organization is not accredited it can attend as part of the delegation of its country or as part of the delegation of an accredited organization. Also young people can follow the session through information provided on the website.
