What is it?
Youth delegates are part of a country’s official delegation to the United Nations General Assembly. Their role depends on the priority of the Member State delegation. Often the youth delegate will be to deliver a statement to the Third Committee of the GA. Usually the participation lasts for at least two weeks from mid-September to mid-November.
Why is it important to young people?
Youth in all countries are both a major human resource for development and key agents for social change, economic development and technological innovation. Being a youth delegate provides one with the opportunity to participate in the decision making processes that affect him/her.
How can young people get involved?
To become a youth delegate, one must be selected by one’s Member State. If the country has previously had a youth delegate, there is likely a program for selecting future ones. If there is no set program, the country must determine that it desires a youth representative and then one needs to work to being selected for the position.
