Every citizen, regardless of sex, age or income level should have equal access to information, skill and services to protect him or herself from HIV.
Partnerships between young people and adults, including parents, teachers, counselors, social workers and religious leaders are vital. Working together can help everyone gain skill and knowledge, and change attitudes.
Children living with HIV/AIDS should no longer be stigmatized and isolated. Everyone should have a genuine possibility to obtain medication, normal living conditions and the understanding of their peers.
FINAL DECLARATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE:
- Allocate special funds in budgets for HIV/AIDS programs, to ensure the involvement of children and young people.
- Develop effective communication mechanisms that are young people friendly.
- Support active media response for behavioral change like, magazine, T.V. programmes, Radio, Drama and Newspaper.
- Allocate specific time and space in schools to address issues around HIV/AIDS, particularly through supporting HIV/AIDS awareness and peer Education programs
- Sensitize youths to endeavor to know their HIV status
At Positive Nation, we hope that the young people's needs will challenge assumptions, raise questions and generate dialogues for the government and other concerned agencies. It is a reminder that they may have to change their approach and work with young people to develop a comprehensive and coordinated HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care strategies that meet young people's needs.
