Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
A: My name is Richard Zhang. I am a high school student at Don Mills Collegiate Institute. I am very interested in writing and global issues, which is the reason why I am currently volunteering for TakingITglobal. It has been a pleasant time working for TIG

Q: How did you become an on-line volunteer
A: During my last summer vacation, I took summer co-operative program. It was a TDSB educational program that allowed students to work in some companies as an intern for a month. I applied for a placement on journalism because I want to be a writer in the future, and I was then assigned to TakingITglobal. Because I loved my job in TIG so much, I decided to work for TIG as a permanent volunteer.

Q: What kind of tasks do you normally perform?
A: I usually do content approval. I have a certain level of access to the back end of TIG website, and I can approve, delete, or decline the organizations, opportunities, events, and Panorama articles that our online members have submitted in.

Q: What are your overall thoughts on the experience?
A: The experience that I have received from volunteering in TIG is valuable. From doing the content approval, I get to see different ideas from various people, and some of the ideas are so brilliant that I can even use them some time in my life. I am very touched by the seeing that a lot of people submit organizations, opportunities, and events that are related to different global issues, some of which are global warming, hunger, HIV, poverty, starvation, education, malnutrition, and so on. These people are very active and responsible global citizens. By doing content approval on Panorama articles, I can read a lot of poems, stories, and prose, some of which are beautiful and touching.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
A: Volunteering is a win-win, double-sum game. Not only can I get invaluable experience, but also I can receive volunteer hours. I strongly encourage everyone to try volunteering here in TIG. You will love it!
