The Renewable Energy Technologies project is similar to the project: Where does all My Stuff go in that it is an extension of the film the Story of Stuff. In both projects students learn about the complex issue of production and consumption patterns via the 20 minute , fast paced online video called the Story of stuff. The film exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and encourages viewers to create a more sustainable and just world.
Renewable Energy Project: After viewing the film students consider the ideas of recycling and research renewable energy technologies.. They will have the opportunity to raise awareness for different renewable energies via the creation of posters, multimedia campaigns and other forms of presentation.

Uitkomsten:
Students who complete this project will recognize issues of production and consumption , and the reliability on fossil fuels which are non renewable and environmentally damaging.
Students who complete this project will gain knowledge about renewable energy technologies which are essential for sustainability
Students who complete this project will work with global peers in order to learn more about renewable energy technologies.

Proces:
1. Write the word fossil fuels on the board and ask the students if they know what they are and can list some. Explain that fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas are called "fossil fuels" because they have been formed from the organic remains of prehistoric plants and animals.
2. Explain that the concerns over the impacts of fossil fuel consumption on climate and the environment are driving current interest in renewable energy sources.
3. Encourage the students to think the extensive use of fossil fuels in terms of their everyday items. Then tell the students that they are going to watch a 20 minute film called Story of Stuff which addresses the issue of production and consumption. Preteach the main ideas or terms as presented in the film exploitation, production, distribution, consumption and disposal.
4. After viewing encourage a class discussion about the parts of the movie that they found the most suprising. Use the documentation from the site to challenge them on facts presented in the film to see if they remember. Discuss the style of presentation, tone, and message. Encourage them to express their ideas regarding what they liked or didn't like about the film. Have students share their impressions of the film on the classroom blog. Invite registered TigED global classrooms to participate in the project and on the blog.
5. Encourage students to suggest ideas for alternatives to fossil fuels. Lead them to the idea of renewable energies and list the diffent kinds on the board. ( Solar, Wind, Hydrogen and Fuel Cells, BioEnergy, Hydropower, Geothermal, Ocean and Green Power/ electricity that is generated from resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and low-impact hydro facilities.
6. Have students work in groups and assign each group a different type of renewable energy to research.
Encourage each group to research their topics following.
*Define the renewable energy and how it works.
*Find pictures, movies to illustrate the type of energy
*Discuss where this type of renewable energy is being used
*Discuss the advantages and disadvantages facing this type of energy
*Find students from the global Tiged population who live in a country that implements the renewable energy that they are researching and interview them about the topic to get a first person point of view.
7. Have students collect all their information and create a multimedia presentation to be shared online with global partners.
