2. Create a drawing based on the descriptive writing of another author.
3.Contribute and collaborate in online dialogue with global peers
Tools & Materials:
TIGed virtual classroom with student blogs, discussion boards, and student writing , maps enabled
Time Required:
3-4 lessons
Process:
1.Collaboration: Use the TIGed collaboration tool to invite registered TIGed teachers to participate with you in the From my Window exchange.
Introduce the project to your students by telling them that they are going to work with partners overseas.
2 Explain that the topic is From my Window . Explain that they will write a description of what they can see from a window with the best view in their homes, or school so that students in other countries can draw a picture based on their description of the view.
2. Create a time line for each class to prepare the written descriptions for exchange. Once partners receive the written descriptions create a time line to complete the revised versions.
3. Getting started.
1.1 Observation: Tell students that they should take a few minutes to observe details from their windows and take notes while observing. If possible they can also take a picture of their view.
1.2 Students should begin writing paying attention to details, location, colors , size and context. The writer's goal is to enable the artist to recreate an actual picture based on a clear and concise writtten description.
2. Correct writing and spelling.
3. Collect all the drawings, and hand them out to students in your class for peer review and completion of the activity.
4. Set up a project blog in your TIGed classroom and have your students post their finalized descriptions. Have partner class create their drawings based on the written descriptions. Scan the drawings or take digital pictures in order to upload as jpegs them to the project site
5. Redrawn versions are uploaded as jpegs for each of the blog postings with a written description. Writers can also upload a digital image, to compare redrawn to orginal work.
6. Encourage students to provide feedback on each others work.
