Araçlar & Malzeme

•digital technology: imaging, video, sound recording

Gerekli Zaman:
several weeks (for one scene) to several months (whole play)

Süreç:
Love at first sight. Innocence. Burning jealousy. Betrayal. Murder most foul.
These themes speak to the core of human nature and remain universal throughout time. Romeo and Juliet is taught at most every high school in the United States and also in most every English class in the world. For this reason, my partner teacher in Montenegro suggested that we use it to develop a modern day interpretation revolving around current cultural conflicts. In our interpretation, Rostislav is Montenegran and Orthodox Christian; Julianna is Albanian and Muslim.
The process:
•Students will communicate with pen pals in Montenegro on a regular basis and collaborate in the production of a multimedia project.

•Students will demonstrate knowledge of Balkan culture and of Romeo and Juliet through their ability to create a modern day interpretation of essential characters and themes set in Montenegro.

•Working in teams, students will write a script, produce storyboards, and take original digital images to portray action.

•Using Garageband, students will record the script, then add a soundtrack and sound effects.

•Using iMovie, students will assemble and synchronize sound and images, then create a DVD with iDVD.

Değerlendirme
Rubrics were used to evaluate every step in the process.
Also, students wrote reflective blogs to record and evaluate learning experiences after each activity. At the end of the project, students assembled a portfolio of their work and completed a summary evaluation.
A sample rubric is attached below.

Eğitmen Notları:
Given introductory units in Montenegran culture, copyright law, and netiquette, the Rostislav and Juliet was taught as a series of ten activities. Each activity was described on a teacher-created assignment sheet with a rubric for assessment on the back. These assignment sheets are available upon request from Becker_Barrie@lacoe.edu.
Also, a sample script is attached. View the podcast at bbecker.podomatic.com
