In June 2010, TakingITGlobal developed and launched a large‐scale survey of its global membership. Over the course of two weeks, the forty-five question survey yielded a sample of 3,338 complete interviews.
Results from the survey suggest that involvement with TIG fosters three capacities taken to be core components of leadership, viz. (1) Issues awareness; (2) the ability to connect, collaborate and meaningfully contribute; and (3) the willingness to take responsibility through action. Following a discussion of literature relating the definitions of leadership, TIG’s relationship to each of these components will be explored through the 2010 survey data. Evidence from this data suggests that involvement with TIG yields positive increases among members which, taken together, support the claim that involvement with TIG fosters the development of leadership capacities among young people globally.
