Impact Microcredit is a two-tiered competition: a National competition in Canada in May and a worldwide competition in October 2011.
It gives a chance to high school students to create/run their own business, while raising money for charity for one week.We want to foster creativity, the courage to take risks, and a collective responsibility to help those in need.
The competition is facilitated online at http://impact.org/microcredit/. Teams of high school students (500 across the country with participation from international teams) submit a business proposal, learn about entrepreneurship and the other areas of business from our education component, and connect with like-minded peers through the Impact Microcredit social network. In May, we give 200 teams with the best plans one hundred dollars. They then have one week to multiply this initial capital into as much money as possible. 100% of the profit is then donated to a charity of the team’s choice. Outstanding teams and their school will win cash and other prizes.
As you can see, we’ve created a win-win situation. Students benefit, and so do people in need around the world.
Teams of 3-5 youth are granted $100 microcredit loans t
