National Child Day (November 20)
What is National Child Day?

National Child Day, an annual initiative of the Canadian Government, marks the anniversary of the UN adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The CRC asserts that people under age of 18 deserve full protection of their fundamental human rights, including education, health, protection and the right to be heard.

The 13th National Child Day will occur on November 20, 2006. In partnership with Canadian Heritage, TakingITGlobal will run a national series of online and in-person events to generate dialogue among Canadian children and youth. These efforts will include 3 Live Chats (1 English, 2 French) and 5 Open Forums that focus on the theme “The Right to be Heard”.

The Live Chat and Open Forums will serve to increase Canadian children’s awareness of their rights, and more particularly of their right to be heard as defined in Article 12 of the Convention
