ts and Youths of Africa (NAYA), Edo State Branch. With members of the National Youth Service Corps in attendance and members from the Ministry of Women and Social Development, the assembly was able to develop a position paper with materials from Youths Afrik International, National Orientation Agency and Save Children Now Administrative Team.
The Position paper was presented at a symposium organized by the Ministry of Women and Social Development in Edo State to mark the IYD 2007 on Friday, 18th of August, 2007.
Billed to be presented to the State Administrator and the State Assembly, the Technical Team had no intention to generate signatures from youths to back up its position. However, an emergency meeting was called on Tuesday, 21st of August, 2007 to modify in line with lingering and submissive tender of the NAYA Benue State position paper at our disposal.
The Position Paper is calling for among other things the creation of a Youth’s Specific Ministry and not a merger with Sports, the appointment of a youth as defined by the African Youth Charter and the Nigeria youth Policy as commissioner to the ministry among other things.
The Position Paper of the South West Youth on the NEEDS II proved useful on diverse issues to the technical team. One can not also undermine the contribution of Youths Afrik International as well as members of the Service Corps.
To achieve the theme ‘’be seen, be heard, Youths participation in development’’, all hands must be on the deck.
