World Music Day

"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent."- Victor Hugo. The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a music festival taking place on June 21, the summer solstice. Music is the sound of a society, of a time and a place. It articulates the ideas and emotions that "cannot remain silent." This refusal to remain silent is why music has so much social power. To celebrate world music day, we invite you to explore the connection between music and social change.

Global Dignity Day Canada - Call for Nominations

Global Dignity Day Canada brings together role models from across the country to inspire and encourage students to make dignified, positive, and inclusive life choices as they develop into their best selves. The goal of this year's event is to highlight dignity as a vehicle to unify and broaden our sense of community, and instill the notion that one's actions can impact and enrich the lives of others. We're looking for youth role models who are examples of living with dignity to be featured in the Global Dignity Day Canada celebrations this October. Do you have someone to nominate? SYS 1. Background Information of SYS-Burao Somaliland Youth Society (SYS) is a local youth, non-governmental non- profit making non partisan and non-political voluntary organization that operates all the six regions of Somaliland in particular eastern regions of Somaliland. SYS was established in July 2001 by a young provisional’s from Togdheer region to address the social and economical problems facing the youth and community to improve their living standard conditions by provision of Health/nutrition, Education, Sports and recreation activities, street children with special needs and peace building programs, improving of livelihoods, promotion of environmental nutrition hygiene and sanitation though capacity building to increase the knowledge and skills of the community mobilizations, environmentally conservation as well, migration intervention programs and cross cutting issues. SYS Youth Recreation Centre Burao Youth Multi-purpose Centre (BYMC) is a youth recreation centre was established in 2002 but The Youth Centre was successfully operating from the year of 2005 under the management of Somaliland Youth Society (SYS) operating in earthen regions of Somaliland. Funded by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the construction of the Centre, implemented by candlelight Equipped by UNICEF handed over to SYS for the purpose of development and rehabilitating of youth in Burao Togdheer, Before the war the centre was a huge Orphanage structure that was a home to many needy and homeless children from the region and its surrounding As a result of these destructions Youth in Somaliland were lost without Youth Centers, clubs for integration and communication as well as education centers and Burao Youth were not an exception. Hence some of the Youth joined clan based conflicts becoming underage soldiers joining gangsters and drug .dealers and addicts among others. Although the core of the center were large and especially designed to provide essential and educational programs for the youth but currently only the following services are provided: 3. Sports and recreation activities: A Volleyball and Basketball games, Indoor body exercise, entertainments of table tennis and indoor games. 4. Education development: Non-formal education (NFE) and skill training for youth empowerment through entrepreneurship and employment opportunities 5. Implementation of HIV/AIDS and FGM awareness rising on cross cutting issues programs. 6. Providing information communication technologies (ICT) skills for the youth in IDPs 7.
