The sound of a heartbeat yields to numerous thoughts and situations. It can be a very powerful sound, one whose initiation signals the beginning of a life, its end signalled by total silence. So many emotions involved. We are given the gift of life, so why do people rob the innocent of this precious gift?
The answer lies in terms such as menstrual extraction, suction aspiration, and dilatation and curettage. The American view on abortion is one that paints the mother, a term loosely used here, as the victim. Times haven’t improved since the diminished practice of saline amniocentesis, a process in which a needle containing a salt solution is inserted into the baby’s amniotic sac. The baby is then forced to swallow the fluid, which poisons the baby, making it move violently. The baby does this for over an hour before it dies and if the operation is successful; the mother will go into labour the next day and deliver her dead child.
I’m included in the young generation, and have heard many girls talk about having casual sex and “not worrying about the consequences.” Abortions are becoming “no big deal.” I wonder if the pro choice group has witnessed an actual abortion, much less know how the procedures are done. In one particular procedure, the abortionist inserts a plier-like instrument, grabs hold of whichever limb it arrives at first, and violently twists until the body part is torn off the baby. The skull is crushed, spine is snapped, and limbs are ripped, one by one. Society still seems to think that the mother is the victim.
My stance on this issue is based on testimonies, personal research, and a strong desire to acknowledge that every human life deserves a chance. In high school, I remember many debates on this issue. I always said, “personally I don’t believe in it…” and the debater quickly came in with, “well, what if the mother is raped?” This is the extreme abortion situation. And, I believe that if the mother does not want to raise the child, then she should at least have it and give this new life up for adoption. So many families are unable to have children and long to adopt. Couples eagerly await being marked off the waiting list, finally able to achieve the family they’ve dreamt about. What would you rather see - a couple adopting a baby to make their wishes of a family come true, or body parts in a bag?
I could discuss this issue in so many ways; paint the picture from a sentimental side, giving you images of toddlers telling you what they want to be when they grow up. Or I can give you the icy facts about the various types of operations, because I believe that alone speaks for itself. Perhaps if pro-choice members read what I’ve read, and seen the pictures I’ve seen, they would all go home with a lot more to think about.
Our world’s exterior is filled with wars and peace conflicts. We have enough to deal with. The psychological effects, internal struggles, and destroyed sense of self should be enough of a wake up call to make you at least question: Is it really worth it? Lives are at stake that shouldn’t be. Embrace humanity and discover the true liberation of giving these sacred lives the chance that was earned the minute they were conceived. Let their hearts beat.

A very courageous article. We need to be much more aware of this issue.

well well, who is the victim?
and the death penalty is ok with you? let me bet, i am sure you just oppose abortion and not the death penalty.
did you know that only the USA and Somalia have not signed the UN Convention on Childrens´rights?
probably not. if you start to tell people how to live a "good" life you start to become fascist very quickly, so be careful and try to think of what women have to go through before they decide to have an abortion.
would you have been against the US led invasion against iraq if you saw the pictures of 10000+ dead, mutilated bodies of civilians?
