India and Pakistan will work together to fight terrorism, the countries' prime ministers have announced.

Meeting in Egypt, they said the fight against their "main threat" should not be linked to wider peace talks.

However, India's Manmohan Singh later said no dialogue would start until those behind last year's attacks in Mumbai (Bombay) were "brought to book".

Relations between the two countries deteriorated after the attacks in which militants killed more than 160 people.

India has accused Pakistan-based fighters from the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba of carrying out the attacks.

Pakistan has admitted they were partly planned on its soil -and vowed to do all it can to bring the suspects to justice.

Michael Jackson's family suspects that the singer's personal doctor, Conrad Murray, knows more about Jackson's death, but they have been unable to contact him.

The parents need to know what happened in the last hours of their son's life, according to Jesse Jackson, a civil rights activist and Baptist minister unrelated to Michael Jackson.

Murray is believed to be the last person to see Michael Jackson alive.

"The routine inquiry is now an investigation," Jesse Jackson said. "They [the Jacksons] didn't know the doctor. ... He should have met with the family, given them comfort on the last hours of their son."

Police, who met briefly with Murray after the singer's death, have been able to reach him and are trying to set up an interview, Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Charlie Beck told the Los Angeles Times on Friday. Police said the doctor has been fully cooperative.

Detectives impounded Murray's car, which was parked at the singer's rented home, because it may contain evidence related to Michael Jackson's death.

Police have released no information on what they may have found.

Michael Jackson died Thursday, and an autopsy was performed the following day. The body was taken to an undisclosed mortuary Friday night.

Mr Hariri's pro-Western alliance won 71 out of 128 seats in the vote, with the Hezbollah-led bloc taking the rest.

His choice as leader was confirmed when 86 MPs backed his nomination.

Mr Hariri, the son of assassinated former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, must now form a cabinet from the country's polarised political factions.

The 39-year-old said he would seek to form a national unity government.

US President Barack Obama has praised the opposition candidate in Iran's disputed presidential election.

Mr Obama said Mir Hossein Mousavi had captured the imagination of groups in Iran that were interested in opening up to the world.

He spoke of the bravery of protesters in the face of "outrageous" violence.

Mr Obama's comments came hours after foreign ministers from the G8 nations issued a statement "deploring" the post-election violence in Iran.

In Iran itself, a spokesman for the powerful Guardian Council - which is due to give its final ruling on the election on Sunday - said there had been no election fraud.

And a member of Iran's top clerical body urged the judiciary to deal ruthlessly with the leaders of the protests.
Foreign ministers from the world's main industrialised countries have issued a statement "deploring" post-election violence in Iran.
The G8 bloc's comments fell short of the condemnation wanted by France and Italy, after Russia warned against isolating Iran.

Earlier the US accused Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of seeking to blame the US for the unrest.

Iran has seen unprecedented protests against Mr Ahmadinejad's re-election.

Iran's Mousavi defies crackdown

Mir Hossein Mousavi has not been seen in public for days
Iran protest leader Mir Hossein Mousavi says he holds those behind alleged "rigged" elections responsible for bloodshed during recent protests.

In a defiant statement on his website, he called for future protests to be in a way which would not "create tension."

He complained of "complete" restrictions on his access to people and a crackdown on his media group.
The statement is a direct challenge to Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

In another development on Thursday, Iranian state media said that eight members of the pro-government Basij militia had been killed and dozens more wounded in the protests.

The eight deaths were in addition to 17 other people whose deaths have already been reported.

The figures cannot be verified due to severe reporting restrictions inside Iran.

"I won't refrain from securing the rights of the Iranian people... because of personal interests and the fear of threats," Mr Mousavi said on the website of his newspaper, Kalameh.

Those who violated the election process "stood beside the main instigators of the recent riots and shed people's blood on the ground", Mr Mousavi said, pledging to show how they were involved.

Mr Mousavi, a former prime minister, spoke of the "recent pressures on me" that are "aimed at making me change my position regarding the annulment of the election".

He described the clampdowns he and his staff were facing.

"My access to people is completely restricted. Our two websites have many problems and Kalameh Sabz newspaper has been closed down and its editorial members have been arrested," said Mr Mousavi, who has not been seen in public for days.

"These by no means contribute to improving the national atmosphere and will lead us towards a more violent atmosphere,"

G8 ministers mull Iran response

Foreign ministers from G8 countries are trying to agree a joint response to post-election violence in Iran.

Italy, which is hosting a three-day ministers summit, said the group would adopt a "tough" stance towards Iran.

But Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said isolating Iran would be the wrong approach and engagement was key.

The summit, being held in Trieste, is the first high-level meeting of leading western countries since the election-related violence began in Iran.

Iran had been invited to attend the talks, which were originally intended to focus on the future of neighbouring Afghanistan, but is no longer taking part.

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said the ministers assembled in Trieste were "working on a document that should condemn the violence and the repression" in Iran.

He said any such document would stress that electoral procedures were an internal Iranian matter and that the international community "can't recount the vote".
