Volunteering Orgs in Ecuador!!

Hi all!!

I am currently on a search to find out about good volunteering/working positions in Ecuador, in the community development and/or environmental managment fields!!

I've applied through a couple of agencies, however want to know that I've covered all possible bases!! One thing that I've found is that some volunteering positions are quite expensive!!! I don't really have the funds to be throwing around... although I realise that $$'s is important to keep these types of initiatives going, however, my best resource I have to offer is my time and experience!!

I hope this reaches someone who may have answers!!

btw... a big "HELLO" to those I haven't spoken to for a while!!

Cheers!!

I just pulled out excerpts of feelings turned into words over the years... which in a very fragmented way, express bits of a person...

---

......and for a moment there is pure silence.
Silence... where did all the silence go?
ode to a moment of silence
a moment of rest from the Great Human.
If you listen hard enough
you can hear the electricity
seirging through the cables above.
Short breathes of contaminated air
fills me with a familiar sensation
of incompleteness.

---

The stars so brightly hand like crystals in an erray of multicoloured darkness
A darkness that is sometimes light
So light that the crystals dissapear to the naked eye
And I lay like a spek of dust. In a room the size of eternity.
I enjoy the millionth of a second my life is worth-
In a universe without time.
I the blink of an eye I have a thousand thoughts-
Nothing is the only thing that keeps me from floating into another world.... far far away.
As I write,

meaningless everythings torment my consciousness.

I hope to fulfill this phantasy called life-
where nothing is really that important,
yet means everything to me.

---

What is art?
Is it a feeling?
Maybe we live art until we stop feeling.
Feel yourself.
I can draw a house...
but what does it mean?
I can paint a beach...
but how does it 'feel'?
I am not happy to put pictures on paper (anymore)
It's not that I think I can't do it
It's because I know I'll feel just as empty as before.
I'm craving a rush of free air
I'm craving a sight of beauty.
Inspiration is just a word-
jsut like everything else-
words are nothing without feeling-without understanding.
Why do I write page after page?
We have a pattern-
and I write on blank pages-
one after the other...
An acceptable thing to do.

Right and Wrong

There is no such thing as right and wrong, there exists only peoples perceptions of right or wrong, which is shaped by their (our) surroundings and who we choose to be in relation to this. For most there seems to be no choice.

I have grown up in a world where the freedom of choice has been relatively great. My upbringing has shown me that I can choose who I want to love, and that I don't have to love that person forever, that I can choose whether or not to be baptised, whether I want to be religious, I can write what I want, think what I want, I can study, work and play wherever I want. Yet in my minds eye I am becoming increasingly more restricted in the choices I make for myself. My inner freedom is slowly suffocating in a world of opinions, rules, and spiritual disenchantment. I feel a numbness creep over me whenever I wonder where I am going be in the future. It seems that society feels that there is a right way for me to go, or a wrong way. And every so often I get an urge to take the easy road and slide into the so-called orginised world of nine-to-five, and turn off the light inside me that so desperately wants to take me on a path that is out of the ordinary. Hmmm... is that the right way?

It is too easy for us to slide into a place where we are accepted by the people around us, where the responsibility of our thoughts, beliefs and morals lie heavily on someone elses shoulders.

So upon reflection I cannot help but appreciate why so many people in the U.S, Britain, Australia and other countries are so willing to support their governments and the thus societies that have given the choice to live the life that they do, and ultimately support a war that is so fundamentally corrupt in its motivation that it is bound for devastaion. For our respective societies can so swiftly and discretely rob us of our ability to discover and live our lives by our own truths, and instead thrive on the truths of others.

For this reason I do not believe that anyone in the world today are right or wrong... however, the problem is that so many people continue to be lazy and accept other peoples truths as their own to avoid realising that they don't really know themselves. While the voices of those who so passionately struggle to be heard increasingly threaten to make people think for themselves, and are thus increasingly muted. (Perhaps what we need is more effective means of communication.... but really.... I could not imagine how??)

Ultimately, it is because of our fear of change that so many people continue to support the regimes that support their own way of life...no matter how oppressive, or liberal they may be....we are bound to them just the same. Is it really freedom that we are fighting for, and if so....then what exactly is Iraq fighting for??? Perhaps it is really suppression that allows us to continue to live "peacefully" in our own societies... in which case.... our lack of inner freedom will result in the continued spread of the worlds worst and most widespread disease....the sleeping sickness of the soul?

I don't have answers, and I'm confused. Like many others today I have found myself preferring to talk about the weather, rather than war. So I have struggled to make any sense out of my thoughts and feelings on the topic...so apologies if I made no sense at all.

for now, take care, be well, and don't forget who you are.

Love Cara
Very interesting.... Perhapstrue, perhaps not.... I'm embarrassed to say that if everyone lived as I do, we would need 5.9 planet earths!!! OUCH.... Best I change my ways!!

Following recent TIG dicussions on the War against terrorism, I would like to explore the potential for channeling the energy, inspiration and motivation of TIG members and the global youth community to conduct a petition against the war on terrorism.

Okay then...

Do you think that it would be possible for us to start our own petition against the War? With the aim of showing our world leaders that tomorrow's leaders (or future generations) are not interested in leaders of today taking (backwards) steps that will further jeopardise our prospects for a sustainable and more peaceful future??

I've never done anything like this before, but this is no doubt the most important issue facing us today (and maybe even our lifetime!), and we have 2 choices....(1) to accept that whatever happens is completely out of our control and helplessly do nothing about it.... or (2).... accept that despite the situation seeming completely out of our control... empower ourselves to do something about it anyway!

I realise that we are all probably very busy and don't have time to be fussing around trying to figure out how to start a global email petition... and I'm no exception to this!!! Eeeek!!! WHAT AM I GETTING MYSELF INTO!?!?! but if we don't do anything about it ASAP, our window of opportunity is fast closing... and we might just lose our chance!!!

Any ideas?!?! comments?!?! (in major need for expertise on the technicalities of conducting an email petition!!!)

For anyone reading this on the Updates page... this has been posted in the discussion room under "Peace and War"..."War Against Terrorism"!! ... there is further discussion and links to more information... on this issue!

...Oh and by the way... thank you Raymond/dtlq for your response and links to the related web pages... very insightful, yet I could not sign the petition, as it did not recognise my post code!!! Typical for us ozzies!!! ;)
