I read this e-mail from Jen about communicating across language barriers and accents years There is a lot of true in this article. But I don’t think that keeping slang, idiom and jargons to a minimum is good thing. Becouse this is the everyday language.
English slang (and many other things like grammar) makes sometimes problems to me as well:) But if I don’t understand I always ask. Thanks this I know today what does “bud” or “you are rule” mean. (Thank you Derek and Jarra).
Sometimes I really feel foolish when I’m asking, but it is like when a child is three years old. He/she starts to speak and to learn mother’s language. And many words seems to be without meaning to this child. So he/she asks oft “why?” , “what does it mean?” We can call this age Asking Age. So all people, whom are learning a foreign language need to get through this “Asking Age” to improve language skills.
And please don’t appreciate people when they speak in foreign language. Because the level of their (for example) English can be low and they just can’t explain their thoughts.
This happened to me four years ago. I worked with one guy from Syria. His Slovak was weak. He answered only “yes” or “no”. That’s why I thought he isn’t very intelligent. I met him yesterday after two years . His Slovak is much better now and I know that he is young genius with a lot of dreams and great ideas.

This weekend I spent with my friends, two kids and my puppy. We rented a cottage in the forest near Kremnica. There is no electric light so it was amazing. Any computers, any radios, any TV. Only beautiful nature. To make a fire we had to cut the wood with axe. I nearly cut my fingers. Two of them still blue.
On Saturday morning I woke up and I heard some bells outside. When I walked out from the door I saw Shepard and about 60 cows. Then came out one of the two little boys (3 and 5 years old). He was scared, but surprised. After few minutes he asked: “And where is the purple cow?”. I am not sure if you know a chocolate Milka. It is very popular here in Europe. The company use a purple cow in their commercial spots. And kids starting to think that cows got to be purple. What an experience! We had so much fun.
About 15000 people (from all districts in Slovakia) objected in Bratislava against bad social politics of our government. I participated for a first time in such a big strike. Our prime-minister said after this strike, that this is not good way, how to change things. May be (probably) he is right, we can’t change things by shouting on the streets. But this strike has a positive aspect too. Because people which where there got a feeling of fellowship and it is a sign that we all do care what’s going on in our country.

Like a spider on the web or a fish in the net?

This net on the picture is from Faculty of Architecture and was made by students of this faculty. Great work guys! It was there during the conference From a Global Village to a Global Net. And why it was there? Here comes the answer from Georg Flachbart. This is abstract of his lecture:
„The world as a heterarchical net offers endless possibilities for each individual to enter new networks and thus get to know different people and co-operate with them in creating cultural and economic activities, irrespective of geographical and time differences. It depends on us whether we are willing to master the „new mobility“ – spiritual as well as physical, which life within the Net will certainly require from us. It therefore depends on us whether we will behave, in this „net of the nets“, like a „fish“ which has been caught and is thus condemned to death for lack of oxygen, i.e. relevant skills, or whether we will behave like agile „spiders“, which feel themselves literally at home in it.“
I think that thanks TIG we are all learning to behave like agile „spiders“.
And how Jarra –TIG member said: it was only in august that I was sitting at my computer in the TIG office when George Flachbart (www.mind21.com) walked in and said, hi! is derek in?... he wasn't so we talked for 1 hour together about SCEI (www.scei.sk) and TIG before Derek came, that was before anyone knew anything... i remember... and then what, 2 months later they are visiting Slovakia and creating there a team.“
TIG in Slovakia is starting as a partner of Slovak Centre for European Integration in Kremnica.
But we want to inspire, informe and involve all young people in Slovakia.
My dog was so scared…So many people at the same time. But back to workshop. The room was full of youth . After introduction part many people left, but it was good for the workshop. There were many of deaf youth and I found out that they are fantastic people and that is big shame that I can’t use the silence language. I have learned how much is for me and for all of us important to become closer friends with these people. They have big spirit and they can teach us a lot. The second thing I have learned is that we have to change our way of learning. Active learning by just doing instead of passive learning by just collecting information. Thanks to Derek, Vanessa, Maria, Martin and Nick I see the world around me a little bit different now. They gave my power and hope, that I can do what ever I want to do. Thank you guys.

Once upon a time – this summer in Kremnica – we prepared one big surprise for inhabitants of our town. During the traditional Kremnica’s fair we dressed up like witches and we sold figures, scried and kept all people in good mood. Today I can tell, that everybody enjoyed it. It was wonderful experience for us (as actors) and for visitors of Kremnica’s fair as well. It was a different way (very funny way), have to ask for money. We have collected enough to repair the hall ( TIG office), which you see below. And the people have good felling, that they’ve supported something beautiful and important .

P.S. We look wonderful, don’t we?
