“Peace, love and unity,
We preach about peace to the whole world,
We all want peace,
We all want love,
Peace, love and unity.”

"Oh, that song sounds familiar!" I thought to myself as I listened to some children sing on my way to school. "Now I remember! We used to sing that song when we were kids. Oh my God, that is like twelve-years ago!"
When I was seven years old, I would sing this song with my friends, screaming at the top of my voice. I did not understand what it meant then. Well, it was just a song with words I could pronounce and spell, whatever they meant… I did not give a hoot then!
Now I look back and realize how much weight they carry. This is actually what we all need in the world. The wars, the famines and the poverty! I wondered if those children really know and understand what they are saying. If they could nurture these three virtues at an early stage, it would be easier to change the world. By changing the world I do not mean “changing everyone in the world”, I mean “the person next to you.” This is how peace begins; one step at a time. If we are at peace with each other, then we can love. And if we can love, then we can unite.
I felt like I would sing along with them and reminisce, but instead I walked on and asked myself, “After I learnt what these words mean, what happened to the desire to want to have peace, to have love and to live in harmony and unity? What have I done to show that I want peace, love and unity?” May be I have or maybe I have not. I will let others judge! But if I have not, I am going to make it my mission to preach and exercise peace, love and unity! I will make the prayer of Saint Francis mine until I finally realize what I desire.
Now, having written this, I realize how time has moved fast and I am still me, doing nothing, and waiting for a hero. Just like my mother told me,”Do not go looking for a HERO, be one!” I am not going to live a mediocre life with an albatross (guilt of not contributing) around my neck, a name with no character, no euphony, no style!
Quote: “…and they say that a hero could save us I’m not gonna stand here and wait oh hold on to the wings of a hero watches the hope fly away” NICKLE BACK - hero

My Japanese teacher told me that in Japan, you can wish someone a "happy new year" until the 15th 0f January. So it is not too late to make my new year resolutions. It is also not late for you.

This year, I have decided
Smile no matter how thick things are,
To utilise my talents,
To be serious in and committed to my work,
To obey and respect others,
To understand and appreciate others,
To be honest with myself and others,
To trust myself and others
and above all,
To love my God, myself, my neighbour and my enemy.

What have you decided this year?

Oh how beautiful life is!
But,
some take it for granted,
others do not know what to do with it,
others take it from others.

But what is life to you?

Is it what makes you live?
Is it the chance given to you to fulfill your God-given destiny?

Life is like a passing wind.
It goes and never returns.
It is the reason we have now, later and never,
Today, tomorrow and yesterday,
The past, the present and the future.

Make your life beautiful!

SERVICE

How many times have been in a shop, bank, restaurant, department store or wherever and you do not get the service(s) or proper treatment you require? Either the attendant is rude, discriminating you or just not interested to serve you? How does it feel?
Everyone deserves good services. To be served politely no matter who you are or where you are from. It would be important to serve others the way you would like to be served. Remember what goes round comes round. Imagine if we were all to take our problems, anger and mood swings to work, how it would be like? If we all decided to yell at our customers just because your boss yelled at you or you just had a bad morning? The customers are the stronghold of the business.
You do not necessarily have to smile. You just need patience, sacrifice and tolerance no matter how annoying the customer, client or patient may be or how tired and bored you are or how much you hate your job.
Serve with reliance and accept your mistakes without defiance.
Try serving others warmly and believe you me, it is worth the effort!

We could all say that those dying of hunger are not our responsibility. What it really is is that what does not affect us will have effect on us either dierectly or indirectly. Everyone has a duty to come up with a radical idea on how to curb hunger. The question is what tools are we going o use to curb hunger? Is it the adjustment of the soaring food prices, refocussing our interest on agriculture that has been ignored in the implementation of SAPs(Structural Adjustment Programmes) especially in the developing countries, or reducing the wars that are emerging from every corner of the world and causing political, social and economic instability? Whatever tool we use, lets make sure that it is for the general good of the people and not for a certain group.

We all are unconcerned about or act with belligerent arrogance towards matters affecting our environment! For those who put some effort in conserving the environment, their efforts end up being unnoticed. The only eye opener to environmental degradation, is the severe consequences that will hit the entire world! But people seem undetered from their actions and will stop at nothing to make money by destroying the environment! The populations and the economies of the better part of the world are growing! It will be hard to control everything at once, but one step at a time and the world will be a better place to live in for the current and future generations! A little time to take care of the environment, a little effort to put that wrapper in a bin, a little conscience to see the effects of environmental degradation; and you will be surprised to see how you can change the world with the small physical and mental movements.
