Wow, time's flying! I have to say, working with TIG has been extremely overwhelming and hectic, but all worthwhile because it's very rewarding to finally see opportunities open up to youth in my community, not to mention, to finally see youth taking advantage of these opportunities.

I'm finding I love to do my monthly report because it makes me realize just how much we've accomplished, and it feels great! Just in the past week we've...
-Had our regular meeting
-Planned a workshop and open forum for next week
-Publicized them (English and French) as well as the Change that Clicks program
-Met with student council at my school about TIG/CLC
-Met with the local Young Liberals club about TIG/CLC
-Did a Guide to Action workshop with students from my school attending a Youth Forum Staci is organizing...
-Earlier this month we had our Climate Change workshop and I'm hearing back from people who are putting their ideas to action :D

It's going really well and I'm especially happy about being able to use my French language knowledge alot. I'm really happy to be part of a project that is providing bilingual services to our community, the way it should be!

I'm leaving for a missionary trip to Jamaica March 10th, so unfortunately I won't be there with Staci and Phil to run the Change That Clicks program, but I've been there for the planning and I think it'll turn out just fine :)

So month #2 with the Timmins Team? Success.

Month TWO

The Beginning... (a blog I accidentally posted on my profile instead of the group page, woops :D)

It hasn't been long since I signed up to TIG, but I've already gotten so much out of it!

I had no idea how big this was until I really dove in with the reading materials I was sent and the site tour checklist. I'm part of a group at my school (called "Project Community Care" or PCC) that commits to a year of volunteering within the community and fund raising for a humanitarian trip to Jamaica, so I'm headed there in March.

That's why, when I was at the part of the site tour checklist where I got to search for members according to specifics like countries or interests etc..., I decided to search for members from Jamaica. The first person I added happened to be from the same city I'll be going to! Just like that. We started talking and it turns out he volunteers at the same boys home PCC will be going to.

The world is HUGE.
But with TIG,
it seems like such a small, small world.

Getting TIG kicked off in our community seemed really difficult at first, but now opportunities are jumping at us! We've already created a good list of networks, we've scheduled the "Change That Clicks" workshop for the March break, we've gotten in at some schools, we have a few workshops coming up, we'll have a booth up at the mall and movie theater soon, and today we had our very first workshop!

We did the "Guide to Action" workshop with a group of about 10 students who are part of a program called Young Leaders on Board. It went really well! The guide was very interesting and easy to follow, yet left a lot of room for discussion. The group was really responsive, I think the workshop led to a lot of critical thinking and hopefully it inspired them to take action.

AND, I must mention, I'm soooo pleased with the people I get to work with! Staci and Phil, the other Youth Engagement Coordinators here, both have so much to bring to the group: experience, skills, qualities, contacts... and though I haven't met them in person yet, Mai and Kimia have been great- both easy to talk to and always there to answer questions.

I'm really impressed and thrilled with my experience working with TIG so far. The next 5 months look very promising - I can't wait to get the word out! Press releases go out tomorrow :D
