Internet and Porn

To date there has been no broad study of the question, but the psychologists ABCNEWS.com spoke to mostly agreed that their experience dealing with children in their practices indicates that boys who look at violent, raw images often develop a disrespectful attitude towards girls, while girls seem to become accepting of that kind of attitude from boys.
"It gives children a very negative message about sex, that it is connected with lewdness, rather than being attached to the human body and with a loving relationship," child and family therapist and author Meri Wallace said.

Beyond the emotional and psychological damage the images might do to youngsters, there is also the threat of physical harm not just from engaging in unprotected sex, but from coming to believe that the abuse shown on some sites or the images of children engaging in sex with adults is normal, the psychologists said.

"If the only information they're getting is fairly unfiltered, uncensored raw images from Web sites and they're not getting responsible information, they're going to make some pretty poor choices," said St. Louis University School of Medicine professor Dr. Ken Haller, who has been involved in an American Academy of Pediatrics initiative to study the impact of media, including the Internet, on children.

The Bush administration has been using those concerns as part of the basis for its drive to force public libraries and schools to install filters on computers used by the public or students, but the issue was powerfully brought home by the death this spring of a 13-year-old Connecticut girl who reportedly engaged in cybersex in Internet chat rooms and had a sexual relationship with a 24-year-old man who is accused of her murder.

The man said that he killed the girl accidentally, strangling her during consensual rough sex. Police said that the alleged encounter that ended in the girl's death was not her first with the accused man, and also might not have been her first with a man she met through the Internet.

A First Study

Despite the anecdotal evidence of that case and others like it, and of experiences child and family psychologists say they have had in their practices, there has been no study that would provide proof of the potential damaging effect on children of viewing raw images of sexual violence, but the National Institutes of Health has commissioned a 5-year project to examine the issue.

Ralph DiClemente, an Emory University behavioral scientist who received a $3 million grant from the NIH, said the study will examine 1,000 randomly selected adolescents' exposure to sexual content on the Internet and its effect on their emotional health by attempting to track which sites youngsters look at and by examining the development of their attitudes towards sex and relationships.

He said that recent data indicates that 60 percent to 70 percent of adolescents who use the Web wind up on pornographic sites, either on purpose or accidentally, and even if they don't stumble on any of the 400,000 adult sites themselves, they might wind up receiving links to them in their e-mail.

DiClemente pointed to the many studies of how violence in movies and on television seems to affect youngsters. Many studies have indicated that the more violence kids see, and the more graphic the images, the more likely they are to act in an aggressive or violent manner.

A report released in February by the Department of commerce said that 90 percent of children between the ages of 5 and 17 have access to a computer, 75 percent of kids 14-17 years old use the Internet regularly — figures that are only expected to grow.

Dangerous Building Blocks?

What concerns the doctors ABCNEWS.com spoke to was not necessarily the fact of children viewing pictures of naked people, or even seeing images of sex, but rather the kind of images that are out there.

Previous generations of parents might have worried about their children getting ahold of magazines like Playboy, but if the pictures of smiling women cavorting naked on a beach, in the bath or in a bed that typically appeared there carried a subtext that women are sex objects, some of the Web sites out there shout that opinion at the top of their lungs.

"Most of those magazines were predominantly just women and they were naked to some degree and they were modeling," DiClemente said. "The Net shows multiple people having sex, people being beaten while having sex, people having sex with animals. The scope of activities is off the seismic charts, plus it's streaming video and audio as opposed to looking at six pages in a magazine — that's really frightening."

"They can't just put it into their world view, because they don't have one," he continued. "This becomes one of those building blocks that they're going to put into their world view, and that's what we don't want. It's a lot harder to change someone's views once they're established than it is to try to instill healthy views to start with."

Particularly for pre-pubescent children and youngsters just entering puberty, being confronted with graphic images of sex can stunt the development of a child's own conception of what a relationship — both emotional and physical — should be.

"It can rob a child of fantasy, by filling what would have been filled by fantasy, with concrete images that would never have entered their heads," said Dr. Mark Sossin, president of the New York Association of Early Childhood and Infant Psychologists.

The Filter Between Their Ears

Clicking once on a site featuring women having sex with barnyard animals or being raped isn't likely to untrack a child who has an understanding of what a good relationship is and who has someone to talk to about anything that seems disturbing, but that is not the case for every youngster.

"For kids who don't have a solid sense of what relationships are about and don't have a sense of a normal healthy sexual relationship in a loving relationship — I think that these kids might not just be sexually excited by the sexuality they see, but also might see it as a model for what a relationship should be," Sossin said.

The Internet also allows children to take game-playing to a dangerous level, allowing them to go into chat rooms, perhaps make up a character for themselves and play out the things they might have seen on an adult site, the way they might play a game drawn from a movie or TV show they saw.

"You're able to make yourself up," DiClemente said. "Unfortunately you can't disentangle fiction from reality, until you're in a motel room, an ice cream parlor, a movie theater and then it's really frightening, you're in this incredible gender and power disparity."

Psychologists and Internet experts agree that while parents are wise to try such measures as installing Internet filters and keeping computers in parts of the house where kids can't use them without adults being able to casually pass by and see what they're looking at, the best answer is not in technology, but in communication.

"You have to assume that when kids are looking for porn, they'll get to it," said Perry Aftab, the executive director of Wiredpatrol.org. "The best filter is the one between your kids' ears," she said.

To activate that filter, parents need to openly address sexuality with their children, and not just the "birds and the bees," but how sex fits into a loving relationship.

"Parents can really take care to give kids a reference point for what's healthy about love," Sossin said. "That offers a protection and a prevention."

‘A Parent's Obligation’

Of course sex is not the easiest thing for many people to talk about, and to do it without moralizing or potentially instilling a sense of shame in youngsters is even harder, Sossin admitted. But he said the more open that parents can be to their children's questions, the more honest and non-judgmental and the more informed about what is on the Internet, the better, he said.

"Parents need to make it clear, they need to make children's curiosity available for discourse, both about what's out there and about their own relationship," he said.

Haller said parents need to talk to children about what they see on Web sites, and that they should make sure they know what sites their kids have looked at — and look at them themselves.

"If they find something disturbing, it's the parents' obligation to say what they feel about it," Haller said. "It's important for parents to initiate conversation, to say, 'What did you see? What did you think of it? Do you think that's how people should interact?'"

"We've got to try," DiClemente said. "If we don't try, that creates a vacuum, and this media will fill that vacuum right up. We've got to create an atmosphere where kids feel that in any situation they've got somebody they can trust, who cares about them and who they can turn to."

If not, he said, there may be somebody waiting in an Internet chat room.

Inmate2: yes we are in Nigeria. Anything can happen. Tell us wha happened to you.

Siju: it started when I was a kid. My parent never had my time because they always quarrel and fight at easy. As a young boy growing I was scared and ran out of the house whenever they are fighting. There was this day my father nearly killed my mother with a mortar, I ran out and did not return until it was night. Getting home at night my mother was nowhere to be found, my father had sent her packing in the afternoon. Really I taught she ran away, but my neighbor told me all that happened after I ran out. 3months later my father married another wife. I was barely 9yrs, I just finished my common entrance waiting to gain admission into secondary school. This part I call the DOOM. My stepmother was not a mother at all. She came with her own kids and made sure my father liked her children more than me. She made sure he did not pay for my school fess again and also stopped him from giving me pocket money. This did not allow me sit for my junior WAEC. Then I was no good in the eye of my father. There was this day my father was looking for some money and a pendant he bought when he traveled to England…….em lets do it like this, you be my father (inmate 1) and you my stepmother (inmate 2).

HOUSE

Father: yes, where is everybody?

Stepmother: bola, biodun and owolabi are having their siesta.

Father: I am looking for my money and my gold pandant.

Stepmother: ask him I saw him beside your wardrobe, he his the one that stole it…. Ask him what he was doing, I caught him red handed, like this.

Father: ……….ehen, so you have become a thief now abi? I will kill you myself. With all I have being doing for you. You this bastard, good for nothing idiot, you want to resemble you mother abi?

Siju: no daddy… I did not take anything….pls ssir, pls sir….

He bits him till he runs inside the cell which should paint a picture that he ran out of the house.then the father and stepmpther joins him immediatels as inmates.

CELL

Siju: since I did not know where my mother was. I had to leave under the bridge of Lagos, where I had to find a source for living. I never bothered looking for my mother because she never cared to know how I was doing. So I hacked the street of Lagos, trying to make living form pure water and sometimes oranges. When I was finding it difficult to feed, I started the job of a bus conductor. One day at the bus top I was call-in passenger…

Siju: agege pen cinema…. Agege pen cinema, wole pelu change e o no change o. a bag was snatched and tossed in my direction. I caught the bag and hid it under my shirt. The guys involved then came to me and gave me some share of the money. I was happy and say so much money with little stress done. So I decided to join them. After so many success full operations we did, from stealing of pus and bags to robbing of shops, houses and also banks. What broke the camels back was the day my friend was apprehended by the police and I did not know. You be the policeman and you my frined.

Friend: siju bobo, siju bobob jooooo..oooo, oti po ju.

Siju: weda lomo. Ladugbo mi ti tin yo wan tun lon yowo sebi, ladugbomi tin tin yo. Wo ti po to kan lo se fotokopi wa.

Policeman: ehen, you are under arrest come out here now.

Siju: ye ye . o set me up. Dapo o set me up. Ehen officer ba wo loshey ma je.

Policman: you are arrested for advance free fraud known as 419.

Siju: olopa, …if na that won, we no dey return mugu money o. at all, at all. Ha. Emi o le da owo mugun pada o. olopa see , your share is .5 …. 500,000.

Policeman: ehen . sshssshhhhhhh. Ehen lets go and settle it, oya.

Siju: that was how we escaped the police that day. It was just luck.
They walk back into the cell.

Siju: it came to this time in my life that I was tired of the way I was living. Though I was comfortable but I had something in me telling me what I am doing was wrong. Then came this preacher. He said I should ne norn again and I was. I gave my life to Christ, yes but things where to tight. All I was hearing was I should pay my tight, and sow to the house of God. I hardly eat because there was no source of income again. Garri was all I use to take. I tried getting a job but I could not, so I went to bro Festus church deacons for assistance. Lets do it this way now. Both of you are the deacon.

IN CHURCH

Deacon: God is in control bro. Siju. He his the one that owns a thousand cattle on the hill will he not provide for you. He said seek first his kingdom and all other shall be added on to you. His eyes are on the sparrow he cannot forget you fir he watches over you. Don’t give it a taught on what you shall eat for he will provide it. He his JEHOVAH ELSHADIA. He shall supply all you need according to his riches in Christ Jesus. Has he said a thing that he will not do it? He will.

Deacon 2: so bro siju God is capable of turning thing around. He has done it before in the case of prophet Elijah he can do it again. But concerning the job we shall tell other deacon, I am positive they shall have something to do.

Siju: I have not eaten since yesterday deacon……

Deacon: let us see you off so we can attend to others that came for coounselling to.

They walk back to the cell.

Siju: I was fed up with this new life of mine. As I was thinking a friend of mine ran to me and told me of a job for that nite, that they where counting on me. I decided to go. As we stepped out with our loots we fell into the hand of the police. We fought back … but in the process I killed one policeman but they killed every body in the gang.
Really that is what brought me here.

6 months later

COURT
Court clerk: court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Judge: this is my judgment, Mr. Siju you have being sentence to death by hanging. I rise.

End

For: ORACLES YOU

THE NIGERIAN POLICEMAN

	THE NIGERIAN POLICE

I really wonder what good the Nigerian government do the citizen of Nigeria by releasing the so-called Nigerian Police into the public every other year. My greatest fair is that are they coming to help the citizens or to molest the citizen? Even with our nascent democracy an average Nigerian sees the police as a treat to his or her existence. It will only take someone who has falling into their dirty, soil hands to understand this.

Statistics shows that 90% of the Nigerian citizenry do not respect the police and will only talk bad and little about them. And yet I wonder who are those that get registered, admitted and graduated from the
Police academy.

This profession is a dignifying one in other countries around the world, but it is a profession used to scare our children when they misbehave or refuse to stop crying in the country called “THE GAINT OF AFRICA”.

I wonder why will a policeman not pay his bus fare and again wait at a check point with guns and whips to extort N20 (twenty Naira), N50 (fifty Naira) and so on, from the same bus driver they refuse to pay bus fair.

Talking of the policeman, what is the job of the Nigerian police?
In response to this, they constitution only gives them the right to maintain peace and order in the society. They have rights to arrest with a statement or warranty of arrest. But on the contrary the Nigerian police will arrest private and public driver for reasons of which is not there job, leaving out the job they signed and made an oath for. For a better understanding

HIV/AIDS stimulators

IMMUNE STIMULATORS

We can think of most antiviral drugs as "offense", attacking the virus to slow down its multiplication. Another approach to treating HIV infection is "defense", strengthening the immune response of people who are infected. This Fact Sheet describes new immune stimulators being developed.
Most of the immune stimulators help to upgrade the immune system agianst the deardly virus. CYTOKINES

Some of these treatments use the body's own chemical messengers (cytokines) to increase the immune system's response to HIV. Different cytokines carry different messages to cells of the immune system. Some cytokines tell a cell to start multiplying; others can tell a cell to self-destruct.

The best-known cytokine is interleukin-2 (IL-2, Aldesleukin, Proleukin) by Chiron Corporation. It is currently in Phase III trials.

Multikine by Cel-Sci Corporation, is a mixture of several different cytokines. It is in Phase I human trials.
VACCINE-LIKE TREATMENT

Another approach to stimulating the immune system is similar to vaccination, except that it is used in people who are already infected with HIV. HRG214 by Virionyx is a genetically engineered group of antibodies to HIV. It is called a "passive immuno-therapeutic pharmaceutical." HRG 214 is in a Phase I trial.

HIV-1 Immunogen (Remune) by Immune Response Corporation includes all of the core proteins of HIV, in an inactive form. This stimluates the immune system to respond. The development of Remune has been long and difficult. Some Phase III trials were halted in 2001 when Pfizer withdrew from a joint development agreement. Remune's future is uncertain.

OTHER IMMUNE STIMULATORS

Ampligen by Hemispherx Biopharma is supposed to activate some of the cell's own defenses against viruses. It is in Phase II and Phase III trials.

HE2000 by Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals is a new drug that works on an infected person's immune system. It is designed to stregthen the "humoral" immune response which is responsible for producing antibodies. HE2000 is being tested in Phase I/II trials.

Murabutide is under study by Dr. Georges Bahr in France. It uses fragments of bacteria to stimulate the overall immune response. Murabutide is given by injection. Phase I results, reported late in 2001, were promising.

Reticulose by Advanced Viral Research Corporation is a nucleic acid that stimulates the cell-killing arm of the immune system. It is administered as a subcutaneous (beneath the skin) injection. Early clinical trials showed that patients receiving Reticulose had increases in their CD4 and CD8 cells, weight increases, and fewer opportunistic infections than patients receiving placebo. No toxic side effects have been reported yet. Reticulose is in Phase III trials.

Cell Genesys has developed an AIDS gene therapy. CD4 and CD8 cells are collected from an HIV-infected patient. The cells are genetically modified to recognize and kill HIV-infected cells. They are multiplied, and then given back to the same patient. This AIDS therapy is given along with antiviral drugs, and is in Phase II trials.

Resveratrol is a chemical found in several plants and the skin of red grapes. It protects plants against pathogens and may have other immune-boosting properties. It is being studied in a Phase I trial in people with HIV.

A complete collection of easy to understand fact sheets about HIV/AIDS treatments and conditions; including conventional, alternative, and complementary therapies. Updated regularly to keep up with the latest information. Information is the most powerful weapon we have in the fight against AIDS.
Recently researchers of the deadly killer disease HIV/AIDS have improved in their findings as to concern the inhibiton of action of the virus. Proteases inhibitors have bing said to be very good in prolonging the life span of the patient and also reducing the life span(inhibiting) the viral actions. These drugs block the protease enzyme. When new viral particles break off from an infected cell, protease cuts long protein strands into the parts needed to assemble a mature virus. When protease is blocked, the new viral particles can not mature. Protease inhibitors being tested in humans include Atazanavir, GW433908, L-756,423, Mozenavir (DMP-450), Tipranavir, and TMC114. Several firms are trying to develop a new type of protease inhibitor that will not be cross-resistant with existing drugs.

Atazanavir (BMS232632) by Bristol-Myers Squibb is as strong as nelfinavir. It has few side effects and doesn't raise cholesterol like many PIs, but can cause high levels of bilirubin. It is being tested as a once daily drug in Phase III trials.

GW433908 by GlaxoSmithKline and is a "prodrug" form of amprenavir. A prodrug becomes active after it is broken down in the body. GW433908 will be just 2 tablets instead of the current 8 capsules, twice daily, and will not contain Vitamin E. See Fact Sheet 445 for more information on amprenavir. GW433908 is in Phase III trials.

L-756,423 by Merck is chemically similar to indinavir. However, it stays in the blood longer and should cause fewer kidney problems. L-756,423 is being studied in combination with indinavir. The dose being studied is 5 capsules once a day, with food. There have been no recent reports on its status.

Mozenavir (DMP450) by Triangle Pharmaceuticals is a very potent protease inhibitor that appears to improve the activity of several other antiviral drugs. Unfortunately, it is cross-resistant with indinavir and ritonavir. It is not broken down by the same liver enzyme as other protease inhibitors, so it is expected to have fewer interactions with other drugs. Development is on hold due to heart irregularities.

Tipranavir (PNU-140690) by Boehringer Ingelheim is a new HIV protease inhibitor. It appears to work against HIV that is already resistant to other protease inhibitors. It is being studied in twice-daily dosing combined with ritonavir and is in Phase III trials. It seems to have a high rate of side effects including diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

the world we are today is becoming a global village. thx to the internet, the networks of networks. the internet is a place where everybody want to be. people are on the net for so many reasons, e-learning, e-banking, research, checking and sending of mails, downloading informations; mp3 files, music, films, etc.

the youths of today in africa are finiding the internet intresting but costly even with their priorities being misplaced. many think they have arrived the internet not knowing that they have more to do with the internet than just chat, check and send mails. u might want to ask, "what do you mean with their priorities being misplaced".
yes i say it again "misplaced priority". the youths of today are to take the internet as serioius as possible because out of it is the issues of life as the internet bible says.(i beg ur pardon there is nothing like that)
with the internet u can do as many things as you can xpexially learning.
