There are so many things that inspire me to be more, do more and act on my instincts. The work of those before me and the anticipated work of those that will come after me inspires me. However, my number one inspiration in my life is my daughter. As she grows older I hope that the things that I am doing will help guide her down the right path and teach her to take charge of her own life as I have done.

I am extremely passionate about Indigenous issues, and all facets of Indigenous struggles. I have worked in Treaty Land Entitlement and Specific Lands claims, which allowed me to gain invaluable knowledge of the legal systems for First Nation land claims in Canada. However, this was not the beginning of my introduction to Indigenous politics. I grew up in a home that was surrounded and occupied with people heavily involved in Indigenous politics. Protests, vigils, conferences, gatherings and meetings were a regular background to my childhood. I believe that it was this that taught me to be proud, strong, and to continue the work of those that came before me.

Good leaders are those that choose not to follow, but rather choose to lead while always thinking of those around them. A good leader is someone who can truly listen to their communities. A good leader knows when to speak up and when to let other people speak up. A good leader is both knowledgeable and open to new ideas.

TakingItGlobal has helped me to achieve so many goals, including the support in the development of the Aboriginal portal, attending the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, and many other conferences and events across Canada. The tools of TakingItGlobal have allowed me to network and meet various youth from around the world to further deepen my understanding of global Indigenous youth issues. Without the support and guidance of those at TakingITGlobal I don't know where I would be. I would love to sincerely thank all those that have believed in me along the way. Mashi Cho!
