What inspires you?
What inspires me the most are the people from different walks of life who contribute something to the society and the people one way or another. Even those who are not rich and influential do something to be of help to the less-fortunate. I was an active online member of TIG when I was still in college six years ago but ever since I graduated, I had temporarily set aside my passion to serve and to showcase volunteerism at least online. I just had to earn in order to support my family so my attention was deviated from youth leadership to the Corporate world. But now, I desire to come back and serve the needy around me again and to serve as a role model to the youth.
Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.
Well, it is not really an issue but a concern and and a challenge. My main focus, ever since, has been to inspire the youth and educate them about the society they are in and all the issues in it that need to be addressed be it politics, environment, human rights, health and education. I have become aware of them because even if you ignore them, you'll experience them wherever you go. I've always been a leader and it was that concerned citizen in me that has encouraged me to become involved and help make a difference in any way I can. From then on, I have replicated myself through the other youth by educating them about the benefits of being involved and what the negative repercussions are if they will just remain passive.
Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.
There's a lot of aspects that make up a good leader. But a couple of things that I can start with are the sincerity to serve and the passion in what is being fought for. For one, if there is no genuine sincerity in serving, then all ends up as lip service or something might be started, but there is never going to be any follow-through anymore. Secondly, passion is what makes any true leader go on despite hopelessness, despite the feeling of almost giving up, and even if there is no support from the government or the affluent people around. It is that burning desire that pushes serious leaders to make do with what they have, to look for resources themselves, and rally people behind them to help them with their initiatives and to help them realize their goals.
Do you think TakingITGlobal can help you achieve some of your goals? Have we already? Please tell us how.
I certainly do. And yes you have. Your group has always been in the forefront when it comes to youth volunteerism. And it is also the main reason why after 6 years of inactivity as a youth leader, I have come back to not just share my expertise to the new generation but also to continue my desire to be of service to both my nation and the poor people in it who are my beloved countrymen.
