for you to listen, learn, and interact through sounds and songs. There are also
ways to get involved in different projects, as well as more information about
TIGed, TakingITGlobal's educational initiative. Read on, and learn more!

++ 2. Monthly Theme: Music ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Music is never simply noise: it is the sound of a society, of a time,
of a place. In this month's theme, we explore the following questions: what
is the role music has played in your life? What is the role music has played
in your society or your community? In what ways is music a tool for social
change? On the theme page, you can listen to important political songs through
our music timeline, hear the music that TIG members and other young people are
making on the jukebox, and watch a video about what a musical culture means to
youth. Listen to the sounds that express the emotions, ideas, and hopes of
people from different times and places!

++ 3. TIGed: Film Festival ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
In May, TakingITGlobal and Macklin Public School, Class 8M, presented
the Globalize This! Film Festival to parents, teachers, officials, and other
guests in Toronto, Canada. The ten short films presented were based on
TakingITGlobal's Understanding the Issues section, and included artwork from
the Global Gallery.
You can find out more about the festival and the year of hard work that
went into it by visiting http://www.tiged.org/scrapbook and downloading the
project scrapbook.
To find out how to organize your own film festival, check out the upcoming
guide, "The TakingITGlobal Youth Film Festival Toolkit," in the Action section
of the site. A teacher's edition will also be released shortly, at http://www.tiged.org.

++ 5. Panorama Online Publication: Songs ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple dancing across a room. Their feet move together, following an
innate rhythm. Friends dancing in the street. Their heads bob together, weaving
a melody of camaraderie. Citizens march in time. They sing verses of solidarity.
Songs travel over the ocean, humming, “This is to let you know how I feel.” In
this issue of Panorama, we explore the ways in which music brings people together,
through interviews with young musicians from different parts of the world!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
++ 6. Global Gallery Contest: "Silence" ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A good song screams at the world when the rest of the world is silent,
afraid to shout. A good song provokes the mind, shakes an idea, beats the heart.
A good album can whisper and still be heard in a noisy room yet is best heard in
a silent one. Even the best of lyrics silently commences with the scratching of
pencil on paper. Silence is the fertile ground on which all sounds grow; even the
loudest of noises has a silent start. A first note that breaks the silence. Water
needs a container to have a form, to exist almost.
There are infinite forms of silences, and infinite sounds. There is no opposition:
both need each other to exist. Express Silence in an image.
