What is it?
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) established in 1946 to prepare recommendations on promoting women’s rights in political, economic, civil, social, and education fields. The object of the CSW is to promote the implementation of the principle that men and women shall have equal rights. It also has the mandate to review the critical areas of concern in the Platform of Action from the Fourth World Conference on Women and develop its catalytic role in mainstreaming a gender perspective in UN activities.
Why is it important to young people?
CSW looks to enhance participation of women in development and equal participation of women and men in decision-making processes at all levels. It is working to advocate the improvement of the status of women of the world and the achievement of their equality with men, with a strong focus of working towards an improved future. The focus on the future is why young people should be concerned.
How can young people get involved?
Accredited NGOs were invited to apply to participate or organize a side event. Non-accredited NGOs can request that their events hosted outside of the UN and Church Center be included in the event list. The side events outside of the UN is open for young people to attend.
