YOUTH CRIME WATCH OF NIGERIA OYO STATE CHAPTER PROPOSAL FOR "YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE" PROJECT Youth Crime Watch of Nigeria (Oyo State Chapter) is a Non-Governmental Organization. Sergeant-At-Arm Casey Odeleye Supo - Logistic Officer Casey Dogunmu Niyi - Project Officer Casey Jegede Bolaji - welfare Officer Casey Odeleye Idowu - Admission Officer We presently have membership strength of about Two Thousand in Ibadan Major city only; with two CBOs already in place namely Felele Youth Association and St. Teresa's College Youth Crime Watch. Arrangements have been concluded to set up CBOs at George & Duke International School, Calvary International Secondary School, Eyinni High School, St. Louis College, Oke Ado High School, Ibadan Boys High School and Government College all in Ibadan Major city. Our major source of funding presently is through membership donations. Some of our partners are: Youth Empowerment and Emancipation (YEES AREMU), Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), CERMADEV, National Association for Women Journalist (NAWOJ), Women Agenda 2003 and National Youth Council (Oyo State Chapter). PROJECT TITLE: Our project is to be titled "YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE" The project title was selected based on the immediate needs of the communities (i.e. different schools) after a sampling in the opinions of parents, students and with the alarming rate of crime recorded daily. PROJECT BACKGROUND/PAST ACTIVITIES: Visit to schools; about 30 schools in Ibadan major city including, University of Ibadan, LAUTECH Ogbomosho, University of Ife, University of Ado Ekiti, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Federal University of Technology, Akure. Peace Demonstration Rally throughout the major city of Ibadan. The Youth, Crime, and The Nation: where youths and adults identified causes of crime, the effect of crime on the nation, the role of youth in crime prevention, the way out, and the efforts and the resources. OBJECTIVES: 1. To reduce crime in our communities. 2. To build a resourceful youth team that will work tirelessly in reducing/preventing crime in their communities. 3. To reduce/prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs. 4. To give youth in different communities a sense of belonging. ACTIVITIES The project is scheduled to commence in July 2003 with immediate span of one year covering the 33 local governments in Oyo State. During the period, at least 5 schools in each of the local governments will be enlighten/educated on how individuals can make a difference in preventing and reducing crimes and its allies. The schools however will include higher institution, secondary/elementary schools. Mode of enlightenment will include Drama, Talk shows and Musical concerts, which I've been proven to achieve better and higher percentage of assimilation and communication. While some of the Advisors will deliver short speeches and papers on the project title. Posters, Handbills and video clips will be presented to the CBOs for better enlightenment. TARGET GROUPS Our target groups are Community Based Organizations and schools, majorly youths of ages 8-45. IMPACTS Our targeted impact if project achieves its aims during this campaign "YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE" is to have youth-led groups in communities that will work tirelessly in the area of prevention of drug abuse, violence, spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs so that communities can be safer place to live and learn. MONITORING & EVALUATION After setting-up the CBOs in different schools/communities, a monitoring team from the CBO will report back on: 1. Membership Growth 2. Incidences of Crime - whether increase or decrease. 3. The Executives will delegate members to attend Unit meeting as deem fit.
