OUTCOMES
What were the major issues that were expressed in the group? Please provide a summary of all the key points that were shared at the forum.
The group were divided into two groups to discussed about Leadership and Patriotism. This topics were designed because of the urgent need to Re-orient the minds of the young people and let them start believing in the entity called Nigeria. There has been series of ethno-religious crisis here in Kano and youths has been involved in this crisis. The timing of this event was a perfect arrangement considering the APATHY to Action the young people from this part of the country has been showing when it comes to National issues. This is the time to build confidence among Nigerian youths. We need to respect each others' culture and way of life and also understand the best way to live as one.
Do you think the Open Forum was effective in terms of inspiring and helping participants take positive action locally, nationally and/or globally? What specific actions did you agree to take individually or as a group in the future?
There has been loss of confidence and trust by our youths on our leadership set up.And this has really affected thier pride as Nigerians and also thier level of patriotism. We decided to discuss these issues so as to restore confidence and hope on our youths.

The questions were divided into two, half were asked to discuss on Leadership, while the other half handled Patriotism. We divided this topics because of the event that was organised along with this forum at British Council Kano.

On Leadership;the participants were asked to define the word LEADERSHIP;60% of the respondents define leadership as the ability to rule and serve people using ones skills and experience. While 40% said Leadership is the ability to influence others towards achieving clearly defined goals for the good of the group.

The next question was...What does it take to be a good and effective leader.
Respondents..A good leader should be patriotic, discipline, focus, has vision and spirit of commitments, should be dedicated, hardworking, effective and humility.Others also said a good leader has to be transparent, honest, tolerant, charismatic, strong and ready to be absorbing.Another person also said a good leader should be morally upright, diligent with emotional stability.

Unfortunately,up to 90% has not seen the copy of Nigeria youth policy documents,so we did not ask questions on that.

Q=Who is your most effective leader in Nigeria history.
Res=
Because this event was organised in the North;most respondents selected Gen Buhari and President Obasanjo.

There was an equal response when the issue of Nigerian problem was asked; 50% said the problem was leadership and the other 50% said is not.

All the respondents suggested that youths should be involved in decision making process in Nigeria. The also said that they will be willing to volunteer their services if called upon.

On B GRP.
(PATRIOTISM).
QUE..The participants were aked what the Green White Green flag meant to them;they answered Peace,Unity,Love,Faith ,Progress.
There was diverse opinion on what we have in common;some said cultural heritage and language;others said the national anthem and flag. Some people also supported the idea that Nigerian has an enduring spirit.
Up to 99% suported the idea that what we have in common can still be a strong binding force for UNITY.
There was also contribution that our Pre-independent fathers are much more patriotic than the present leaders because they see themselves as Nigerians regardless of thier ethnic and religious background.

There was also contributions that Nigeria corporate existence is being threatened by some forces such as ethnic and religious differences, nepotism, external forces, forces of selfishness, corruption and unemployment.

When the issues of confidence building amongst the various ethnic backgrounds came up.Most of the respondents suggested that Nigerians should allow Peace,Love and Unity with selfless service to be our watch word. Some also suggested that more workshops and seminars for Youths empowerments, should be organised in schools and communities .Some also said that a national Re-orientation programme based on the themes;Love, Honesty and Service to the nation should be organised in all the geo-political regions of the country.
What do you feel were the positive outcomes resulting from this forum that may help create change in your community?
The contributions by the resource persons on Service to the nations and Youths enterpreneurship will surely empower the participants. There is a new thinking amongst this young people that is time the should start asking for what they should do to thier local community without asking for pay Backs as a top piority.
