Global Youth Action Network - Septiembre 19, 2002 WHAT: Friends, allies, organizational partners and young activists will join Dr. Jane Goodall and other notable supporters to mark the 5-year Anniversary of the Global Youth Action Network at the Roger Smith Hotel this Sunday evening. The event will serve to celebrate the organization’s accomplishments, and inform the public about its current work and vision for the future.
WHY: Launched in 1999 after three years of development, the Global Youth Action Network (GYAN) has become one of the leading alliances of youth organizations committed to improving our world. With hundreds of organizational members and thousands of active partnerships in almost 200 countries and territories, GYAN promotes collaboration among organizations, facilitates greater youth participation in decision-making, and provides support and recognition to young people who take positive action to improve their communities.
GYAN helps to organize Global Youth Service Day, the largest annual celebration of young volunteers; works with the United Nations to increase levels of involvement within their agencies and work; distributes $1,000 Global Youth In Action Awards to youth-initiated projects that have improved communities around the world; and works with the media to feature and publicize positive stories of young people making a difference. With strategic partner TakingITGlobal, GYAN has helped to build the internet’s most active and dynamic community and clearinghouse of information, resources and opportunities for youth action, which receives over 1,500,000 hits a day.
WHO: A variety of guests will be on hand, including VIPs, advisors and board members, United Nations staff and other personalities from the professional, media and entertainment sectors.
